Getting As Low As Possible At The Dead Sea

A visit to the dead sea was a must for us while in Israel. We were fascinated by visiting the lowest elevation on land. My friend Ali and I rented a car so we could get around to a few sites we wanted to see on our own time so we drove straight from Jerusalem to Kalia Beach.

At Kalia Beach there are shops and food spots and a bar with the iconic title of “Lowest Bar in a the World.”

Before taking a dip we sat on the shore and enjoyed smoothies while watching others swim. It was hilarious watching people trying to get in and out of the water as it is clay and slippery. It was also hilarious watching everyone have the same reaction of holy crap I literally am floating and cant keep my feet down.

Finally we decided it was our turn. As we made our way down the edge to the water we became just like those we had laughed at before. We slipped and looked wobbly and when we finally made our way fully into the water had the same child like grins on our face and absolute aw over our buoyancy.

There are signs that say no stomach swimming and this is because it actually is hard to flip over to your back or move at all because of the salty water. The dead sea is a hypersaline lake and is 9.6 times saltier than the ocean. The sea has become so salty because water flows in such as rain and surface water but doesn’t have a source to flow out. Due to the hot temperatures the water evaporates and the minerals stay and now that has caused the salt to become very concentrated.

Let me tell you it is so salty, it almost burns your pores. Don’t even think about rubbing your eyes and if you get the tiniest bit in your mouth it makes you gag.

We had so much fun floating and then putting the clay all over us for a mask. Such as amazing experience!

I don’t want to read your post, what should I know?
